Cypress’ Corson Shuts Out OCC With One-Hitter

CYPRESS — Laura Corson pitched a one-hitter as Cypress defeated Orange Coast, 5-0, in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Monday at Cypress.
The victory gives Cypress a 1 1/2-game lead over second-place OCC with four games left. The only hit Corson (21-7) allowed was a third-inning bunt single by Becky Toler.
Jackie Boxley had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for Cypress (25-10, 12-2 in conference). Lisa Hawthorne had a double, scored two runs and Collene Conahan had two hits, scored two runs and stole two bases for Cypress. The Chargers scored single runs in the second, third and fourth and two in the sixth.
Kristin Heizer (11-5), who pitched a 14-inning shutout for OCC last time the teams met, took the loss. OCC is 29-13, 11-4.
