Miller the Screenwriter: Playwright Arthur Miller himself will adapt his acclaimed play “The Crucible” for the big screen. Miller’s son, Bob Miller, confirmed reports that 20th Century Fox will produce the drama about the 17th-Century Salem witch trials, which was written by his father in 1953. The play commented on the McCarthy-era “witch hunt” going on at that time. The younger Miller will work as a producer on the film. Kenneth Branagh, known for the movie “Henry V,” is rumored to be interested in directing and starring. Arthur Miller has written other screenplays, including John Huston’s “The Misfits,” and “Everybody Wins” with Debra Winger and Nick Nolte.
