Singing in the Rain: It rained on tenor Luciano Pavarotti’s free concert Tuesday night in London’s Hyde Park, but the downpour didn’t deter an estimated 125,000 hardy souls from attending. The crowd was the biggest to gather in Hyde Park for a concert since the Rolling Stones performed there to 80,000 fans in 1969. Prince Charles, Princess Diana and Prime Minister John Major were in the throng. The concert, televised as “Pavarotti in the Park” to various parts of the world, marked the 30th anniversary of the tenor’s career. The tenor said in a pre-concert press conference that he waived his fee for the event because as a child he could not afford to go to the opera.
