Although some problems still need to be corrected, a new airplane warning device designed to prevent collisions in flight is working, representatives of the airline industry, pilots’ association and the Federal Aviation Administration told a House subcommittee. However, Barry Krasner, president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Assn., called the Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System a “major disruption” to air traffic control. He asked the House Public Works and Transportation subcommittee to institute a moratorium on installation of the system.
