IN BRIEF : Author Begley Wins 1991 Fiction Award

Polish-born American author Louis Begley of New York has received the 1991 Irish Times-Aer Lingus International Fiction Prize for his first novel, “Wartime Lies,” published by Knopf. Begley is the third winner of the $40,000 annual prize given for a work in English or Irish published in the United States, Ireland or the United Kingdom. The previous winners were British novelist A. S. Byatt in 1989 and American Don DeLillo in 1990.
