OXNARD : Hearing Scheduled on Gym Project
- Share via
An Oct. 22 public hearing has been set by the Oxnard City Council to decide whether to accept the low bidder to build the Colonia Gymnasium project.
Redevelopment Agency officials recommended Tuesday that the council reject the bid from the Edwards Group, a Newport Beach developer, because the company appears to have violated minority hiring requirements.
The Edwards Group submitted a $799,691 bid for the project, the lowest of 11 bids submitted. The project involves construction of a 10,996-square-foot gym.
But city officials said the developer failed to list minority subcontractors contacted for the project. Officials also said that a number of complaints have been filed against the construction company on other projects, including allegations that it failed to pay its subcontractors on time.
