Many Erred in Building of Homes on Public Land, but Only Public Suffers

* Re “21 Homes Built on Land O.C. Intended as Public” (Nov. 1): The revelation of yet another construction project on public land is truly startling. Where were the watchdogs, whose salaries are paid by our tax dollars, when these plans where approved?
With nearly no open space left in our county, I do not believe we elected our county supervisors to give away our land without compensation. Whereas I empathize with the homeowners’ plights in this sticky situation, I strongly oppose the illogical recommendation by the top county staff officials to relinquish the public’s claim.
Instead, we should demand a thorough investigation to seek out any possible skeleton in the approval process so this will not happen again. If this is yet another act of incompetence on the county staff’s part, then let’s weed out these culprits immediately before the fire of errors spreads any further.
The article also mentioned that this error was not detected either by (Richard) Hunsaker’s engineering firm or the title company until August. Are there any doubts that these two parties should not be held responsible for their acts like most of us?
