SANTA ANA — Police said they were still searching Sunday for suspects in a gang-related shooting over the weekend that left a 19-year-old Santa Ana man close to death.
Angel Sanchez was shot on the left side of the head Saturday while sitting in his car in the 1600 block of West 2nd Street, police said. A vehicle pulled alongside Sanchez’s car and its occupants fired three shots from a 9-millimeter handgun, hitting him once.
The suspects then fled the scene, police said, adding that an investigation is continuing.
A hospital spokesperson at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana said Sanchez remained in critical condition Sunday night. Sanchez had to undergo surgery that lasted well into Sunday morning.
