Pedestrian Hazards

I am in no position to comment on the $100 surcharge John Kettler complained of (letter, Oct. 31) after being fined for “genuflecting” at a stop sign, but I can tell him from experience that “walk whenever possible” is not a solution.
When my car stopped running in 1985 and I became a pedestrian and bus rider, I said at least I’d never have another traffic ticket and I’d never be in another accident. Two weeks later, I received a jaywalking ticket, and one year later, I was struck by a car while crossing the street.
