A SPECIAL REPORT: BASKETBALL
TIPOFF: This isn’t Kentucky or Indiana, but you can see plenty of college basketball in Orange County. And you usually don’t need advance tickets, because Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine and Chapman University generally draw mediocre crowds--unless Nevada Las Vegas is in town. . . . Still, the colleges are trying to build interest. UCI brought in coach Rod Baker from Seton Hall of the powerful Big East Conference. And Chapman’s Bob Boyd occasionally schedules big-time teams on the road. Boyd says: “We’re doing it to upgrade our program and give it a little more pizazz.”
