Water Polo Victory Puts UCI In First

UC Irvine took over first place in the Big West Conference water polo standings with a 9-8 victory over Pepperdine Sunday at Irvine Heritage Park.
Steve Gill had four goals to lead fourth-ranked Irvine (17-6, 6-1 in conference), which has three conference games remaining.
Greg Haynes scored with 4:20 left to give Irvine a 9-6 lead. Steve Froning also had two goals for Irvine.
Pepperdine, the second-ranked team in the nation, is 19-6, 6-2.
