Dangerous Fishing
The article “Shark Attack” (Sept. 19) reports some alarming data on the declining population of sharks along our California coastline due to aggressive commercial fishing. If the sharks are permitted to go to extinction, other fish populations could explode and a disastrous imbalance in the ocean ecology could result. Also, we humans will have destroyed one of the oldest creatures on the earth due to our selfish consumerism.
We must take responsibility for our actions and demand effective regulation on the fishing of sharks and other vulnerable marine life. Our ignorance has completely annihilated brown and grizzly bears from our California mountains and left few to no bald eagles in our skies. Shall we now allow our ignorance and greed to kill all the sharks in the oceans?
