PREP ATHLETE OF WEEK
Edward Nouriganiyan, Glendale--Nouriganiyan, a 5-foot-6, 155-pound junior kicker, made a dramatic 24-yard field goal with no time remaining to give Glendale a 17-16 victory over Muir. The victory extended the Dynamiters’ Pacific League winning streak to nine games over two seasons. It also clinched at least a share of the Pacific League championship, which the Dynamiters can win outright with a victory this week against Hoover. “I don’t look up at the goal posts,” Nouriganiyan said after the game. “But as I followed through, I knew it was going to be perfect.”
COLLEGE ATHLETE OF WEEK
Robert Jaffe, Occidental--Jaffe scored 12 goals in five games to help the Occidental water polo team finish fifth in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament last week. Occidental concluded its season with a 10-14 record under second-year Coach Pete Loporchio. The Tigers doubled their victory total of a year ago.
WHERE ARE THEY NOW
Bill Schultz--Schultz, a former All-American offensive lineman at Glendale College, helped the Indianapolis Colts to their first victory of the season on Sunday, a 28-27 win over the New York Jets. Schultz, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound guard, missed four games this season after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery. The second-year pro was selected in the fourth round of the 1990 draft out of USC. The Colts had 436 yards of offense against the Jets.
