Congressman Helped Port

I am pleased that The Times gave such extensive coverage to the Port of Hueneme receiving port of entry status, but I would like to correct the omission in your article of Congressman Elton Gallegly’s key role in reaching our goal.
Gallegly spearheaded our successful effort to finally persuade Customs and Treasury officials that our proposal was warranted. It was the meeting in his office last December among Customs Commissioner Carol Hallett, the congressman and district management staff that got the ball rolling.
In addition, the congressman and his staff, especially his chief of staff, Lisa Boepple, continued to call Hallett and Treasury officials, sometimes several times a day, as the decision-making process reached its critical phase.
