* United Artists Entertainment Co.: United Artists reported a third-quarter loss of $21.4 million, or 18 cents per share, on revenue of $397.3 million. A year earlier, the company reported a $31.9-million loss--equal to 26 cents per share--on revenue of $396.8 million.
The Denver-based movie theater owner and cable TV operator said the loss was because of interest costs, certain non-cash expenses and preferred dividend payments. It said its operating income for both periods, however, was at record levels.
Cable TV division revenue rose 14.3% for the quarter, mostly due to subscriber growth, but theater division revenue was off 13.3% because of lower attendance and restructuring charges. Tele-Communications Inc. is in the process of acquiring the 46% stake in UAE that it doesn’t now own.
