Random House to Close Turtle Bay Division: Random House Inc. plans to close its troubled Turtle Bay Books division just two years after it was created. Alberto Vitale, who heads Random House, said the creation of the Turtle Bay imprint in January, 1991, “coincided with a period of surging competitiveness and streamlining throughout the publishing industry--a reality that now makes its necessary and prudent for us to take this step.” Turtle Bay acquired books by authors such as Ann Beattie, Mario Puzo, Michael Caine, David Mamet and Brandon Tartikoff.
