Countywide : Conference on Cults and Gangs Planned

The growing influence of gangs and cults in Ventura County schools will be the subject of a teacher conference Friday that is being sponsored by the Ventura County Assn. of School Psychologists.
The conference, entitled “Gangs and Cults: Uses and Abuses of Power, Manipulation and Influence,” will be held at the Ventura County Superintendent of Schools Conference Facility at Camarillo Airport. The conference will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will cost $25 for association members and $30 for all other individuals.
Featured speakers will include Ventura Police Sgt. Carl Handy, who heads that city’s gang unit; Westlake psychotherapist Arnold Bloch, who works with families and victims of gangs, and Ventura County juvenile Probation Officer Peter Martinez.
