Master’s College forward Phil Sanson, who fractured his larynx in a game Jan. 9 and has been unable to speak or breathe normally since, underwent surgery to regain the use of his voice Friday at the UC San Francisco Medical Center.
Dr. Herbert Dedo inserted an endoscopic Teflon keel to divide scar tissue that was sealing Sanson’s vocal cords. Sanson’s mother, Nancy, reported that Sanson was able to speak in a soft voice Friday night, but Sanson still relies on a tracheotomy tube to breathe. He will undergo further surgery in six weeks.
