Sierra Madre : Center Faces Opposition
More than 30 residents protested a proposed day-care center at 647 W. Sierra Madre Blvd. that received Planning Commission approval in December.
Citing the potential for noise, traffic and reduced property values for the apartment buildings around the single-family, two-story house where the facility would be located, residents urged the City Council on Tuesday to deny the permit.
Several people spoke in favor of the Little Learners day-care center. Heather Tweddle Banis of Sierra Madre, a clinical child psychologist, said she was appalled that other residents weren’t more supportive of providing child care within city limits.
The council is scheduled to vote on the center at its Feb. 23 meeting, when the public hearing will be reopened for more comments from residents.
