The field of mayoral hopefuls for the April 20 ballot narrowed from 52 to 31 by Saturday’s qualifying deadline, but is still a record number of candidates.
A total of 119 candidates filed petitions to run for mayor, city attorney, controller, seven City Council seats, three Board of Education seats and three Community College Board seats.
To win a spot on the ballot, candidates had to collect 500 voter signatures and pay $300, or in lieu of the fee, gather 1,000 signatures.
