GRAND OPENINGS: Look for two new regional parks to open in Orange County this spring. . . . Laguna Coast Wilderness Park--so big and scenic it’s dubbed “super park”--will have its grand opening in April. Longtime County Supervisor Thomas F. Riley calls the park, created after years of wrangling by local government, environmentalists and the Irvine Co., “among the greatest accomplishments I’ve seen. . . .” Peters Canyon Regional Park near Tustin will open soon for hiking, biking and horseback riding. . . . And old standby O’Neill Regional Park will reopen this spring with a new look.
Parks Flourish
By the turn of the century, county parkland will have increased nearly 40-fold in 30 years. 1970: 721 1980: 8,221 1990: 21,539 1993: 21,893 2000: 26,593* * Projected
