Ryan Hamilton capped an impressive performance Sunday with a three-run home run in the 11th inning to give Cypress a 6-3 victory over Moorpark in the title game of the Cypress Kiwanis baseball tournament at Cypress.
Hamilton had a two-run single earlier in the game and finished with four hits and five runs batted in.
David Biddinger opened the 11th for Cypress with a pinch-hit double to the gap in right center. Eric Stevens then pushed a bunt up the third-base line for a single, leaving runners at first and third with no outs.
Hamilton then hit his third homer of the season down the right-field line.
The infield hit by Stevens was his second key bunt of the game. Moorpark held a 2-1 lead going into the seventh when Josh Prewitt and Josh Kliner opened the inning with singles for Cypress.
Stevens then sacrificed the runners over, and Hamilton drove home both with a single to right.
“Eric did a great job in this tournament,” Cypress Coach Scott Picker said. “The bunts and his defense at second base were key.”
Mike DesRoches, a freshman right-hander from Loara High, worked 2 1/3 innings of relief for the victory. Chad Bumgarner pitched the bottom of the 11th for the save for Cypress (7-1), the designated visiting team.
Moorpark got single runs in the second and fourth before Kevin Clark opened the sixth with a home run for Cypress.
Clark, Hamilton and Gary Manley were selected as tri-most valuable players of the the tournament.
