New Disk Drives: Western Digital Corp., a manufacturer of computer components, said Tuesday that it has begun making a line of computer disk drives for the high end of the market.
Robert Blair, spokesman for the Irvine-based company, said the company is producing sample versions of its 425-megabyte Caviar hard disk drives. A megabyte stores the equivalent of 500 typewritten pages.
The 3.5-inch drives sell for prices starting at $700. Blair said the company expects to be producing the drives in volume during the fourth quarter ending June 30.
