COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Chapman Rallies in Ninth to Beat No. 14 Pepperdine

Chapman scored two unearned runs in the ninth inning and held on to defeat 14th-ranked Pepperdine, the defending national baseball champions, 3-2, Tuesday in Malibu.
In the ninth, Chapman’s Chris Briones hit a fly ball to right field, but Pepperdine’s Ryan Radmanovich dropped it, allowing Sam Torreira and Bob Skapik to score.
James Thomas pitched a six-hitter with eight strikeouts for Chapman (5-5). Pepperdine is 5-5.
In other nonconference baseball:
Southern California College 5, Western New Mexico 2--Dwight Neade had a two-run triple and Jeff Beckley pitched a five-hitter for the host Vanguards (4-4).
Christ College Irvine 5, UC San Diego 5 (11 innings, darkness)--Ben Davis scored twice for visiting CCI (2-3-1).
In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball:
Westmont 76, Southern California College 61--Mike West led SCC (16-11, 5-4 in conference) with 24 points and eight rebounds. Westmont is 15-10, 6-3.
In nonconference men’s basketball:
Christ College Irvine 80, UC San Diego 75--Agustin Heredia scored 21 points for host CCI (14-12).
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Southern California College 83, The Master’s 54--Cyndi Lyons had 21 points and seven rebounds to lead host SCC (14-12).
In Big West Conference women’s tennis:
UC Irvine 7, Cal State Fullerton 2--Michelle Manley of Irvine (3-5) defeated Kara Kolb, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 singles.
