12 Area Boys’ Teams Resume Playoff Action Tonight

Competition in the Southern and City Section boys’ basketball playoffs will continue at 7:30 tonight for 12 South Bay teams.
All but one of the teams are involved in quarterfinal-round games. St. Bernard (13-13) plays Palo Verde of Blythe (15-10) in the Southern Section Division IV-AA semifinals at El Segundo High.
Three area teams have a chance to advance in the Division III-AA playoffs. Top-seeded Morningside plays Estancia of Costa Mesa (15-11) at Inglewood High, second-seeded Bishop Montgomery (21-2) meets Paso Robles (18-6) at Redondo, and third-seeded South Torrance (24-2) plays Pomona (20-5) at North Torrance. If Bishop Montgomery and South win, they would meet in the semifinals Tuesday night at a neutral site.
In Division I-AA, Bay League runner-up Peninsula (20-7) meets third-seeded Simi Valley (22-5) at Royal High in Simi Valley.
In Division II-AA, Bay League champion Inglewood (18-9) plays fourth-seeded Cajon of San Bernardino (24-4) at San Gorgonio High in San Bernardino.
In Division II-A, Mira Costa (20-7), runner-up to Morningside in the Ocean League, meets Kennedy of La Palma (25-3) at South Torrance.
In Division IV-A, second-seeded Serra (19-7) plays Carpinteria (14-9) at Santa Barbara High.
In Division V-AA, top-seeded Chadwick (19-7) plays host to Holy Martyrs of Encino (20-4).
Three area teams will compete in City playoff games. Fourth-seeded Westchester (21-6) plays host to Locke (23-9) in a 4-A Division game. Second-seeded Banning (14-12) plays at Lincoln (20-4) and Gardena (11-12) plays at San Fernando (16-8) in 3-A games.
