Readers Are Stunned Shoemaker Was Able to Collect on Accident

It is unfortunate Bill Shoemaker is a quadriplegic. If there was a mess-up at the hospital, he does have a case against the medical community there. However, I am appalled he went after Ford and with the terms of his settlement. Ford is gutless to settle with this drunk driver. They did not make him drink and drive.
Why should any of my tax dollars be paid to anybody stupid enough to get behind the wheel with a .13 blood-alcohol count? For his attorney to state he doesn’t “think Bill was drunk” and imply the hospital gave him alcohol is indefensible.
Society needs to stop paying off leeches like Shoemaker and his lawyer. The whole problem is Shoemaker’s fault. Accept it, Shoe, you screwed up. Don’t make the people of California pay for your mistake.
