PLATFORM : A Right to Safety

As the law currently states, (information about) a student who may have had problems with violence in school cannot be divulged to the school he or she is being transferred to until that child has been convicted of a crime. And even when a student is convicted of a crime, and the authorities let the school know, there is so much lag time before we are informed.
We must be fair to both sides. After all, we’re talking about basic rights that are dear to us. However, my No. 1 concern is the safety of our students. And I can guarantee that if you polled every school in this country, you would find that every principal, or anybody that is in charge of the safety of our students, would want to know as much as they could about a student who may cause problems.
I would hate to get into a network of information that would pass information on students to administrators. (But) students must have the right to attend a school that is free of violence.
