OUTLOOK
The Hawks begin the season ranked second to Irvine in the Southern Section Division III poll. Why? Just look at their roster. The Hawks have pitching, pitching and more pitching. And they have probably the county’s top junior in Nista, who was the league’s co-MVP with Trabuco Hills pitcher Carey Smith. Nista was 7-2 with a 1.73 earned-run average and 40 strikeouts last season. He hit .359 with 17 RBIs and has a solid glove at shortstop. He will likely be a top college prospect. Miller is the Hawks’ other key starting pitcher, finishing 8-3 with a 2.74 ERA. Messinger, a two-time all-league selection, hit .383 last season with 23 RBIs. Look for the Hawks to dominate most league games. Tereschuk is 37-8 in league during his four seasons at Laguna Hills.
