Allow me to quote from Charles Solomon’s review of “The Great Southwest Nature Fact Book” (Jan. 3): “Reading this affectionate book aloud could provide a welcome diversion on a car trip through the dessert.”
Having recently crossed the Chocolate Mountains in Imperial County, California, by automobile, a book such as this would have indeed provided a welcome diversion, although some whipped cream and a cherry would have topped off the trip splendidly.
