Top-seeded Inglewood Morningside started the Southern Section girls’ Division III-AA championship game with a 22-1 blitz and then hung on for a 71-60 victory over Mission Hills Alemany on Saturday at Loyola Marymount University.
“Last year was the first time in five years that we didn’t win the title,” said Roderick Tatum, Morningside’s coach. “That was a down year for Morningside.”
Tina Thompson led the Monarchs (26-2) with 25 points. Kameisha Prewitt had 14 points, eight assists and six steals and Cha-Ron Walker added 18 points.
Zevette Mitchell led Alemany (25-5) with 22 points.
