Sophomore right-hander Kevin Foderaro remained unbeaten, pitching College of the Canyons to a 13-7 Western State Conference baseball victory over host Ventura on Saturday.
Foderaro gave up 10 hits but went the distance to improve his record to 5-0. Visiting Canyons trailed, 6-3, after three innings before erupting with four runs in the fifth inning and five in the sixth.
Kirk Fellows led Canyons’ 18-hit attack with a double and triple. Canyons is 10-2, 7-0 in WSC play.
In other college baseball games:
Oxnard 12, Moorpark 10 (12 innings)--J.J. Ramirez’s single scored Jon Chaparro and Nick Frank with two out in the top of the 12th inning to give the visiting Condors their first victory in WSC play.
But it was the fielding of shortstop Chaparro that gave Oxnard (3-9, 1-5) the chance to win. Oxnard led by one in the seventh when Chaparro’s diving stop in the hole turned a would-be bases-loaded single into a 6-4-3 double play.
In the ninth--with the Raiders (3-3-1 in conference play) rallying for four runs to send the game into extra innings--Chaparro threw out the potential winning run at the plate.
Cuesta 15, Pierce 9--The Brahmas (5-7, 3-4) could not recover from Cuesta’s seven-run seventh inning in a WSC game at Pierce.
Pierce was protecting a 5-4 lead after six innings, but Cuesta (6-7, 4-3) scored seven unearned runs in the seventh. Pierce committed two of its six errors in the inning.
Bryan Corey and Jason Cohen each went four for five for the Brahmas, which outhit Cuesta, 17-13. Herman Merchan and Lou Tapia each had two hits.
Mission 6-12, Cerro Coso 0-10--Robert Garcia’s two-run double in the ninth broke a 10-10 tie and sent the visiting Free Spirit to a sweep of a Southern California Conference doubleheader.
Garcia, who had three hits in the opener, had three doubles and three runs batted in in the second game to back Richard Avalos’ homer, triple, single and three RBIs. Joe Brown pitched the final two innings for Mission (12-4, 3-0), allowing one hit and one run, to pick up his fifth victory without a loss. Raul Torres (2-2) tossed a two-hitter over seven innings in the opener.
Rio Hondo 9, Antelope Valley 3--Jack Cox’s second-inning solo home run was one of the few bright spots for visiting Antelope Valley, which committed five errors in the Foothill Conference game.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Cal State Northridge 7, St. Mary’s 2--Amy Marks, Jennifer Cotone and Tracy Spellman remained undefeated in singles play, leading the Matadors (7-0) to a nonconference victory. Marks and Monica Kocian are also undefeated in doubles play.
GIRLS’ SOFTBALL
Thousand Oaks 2-13, Eisenhower 0-2--Carrie Russell tossed a no-hitter and struck out 12 in the first game, then scattered two hits with nine strikeouts in five innings of the second game as the Lancers posted a sweep of a nonleague doubleheader at Eisenhower. Jenny Bottomly singled, stole second and scored on an error in the sixth inning for the only run Russell needed in the opener. Shannon LeBaron had four singles to lead Thousand Oaks’ 11-hit attack in the second game.
