Laguna Beach’s Booth Edges Machado in Cardiff Surf Final

CARDIFF — Laguna Beach’s Jeff Booth edged Cardiff’s Rob Machado in the finals of the Body Glove at Seaside Reef surfing contest Sunday.
Booth earned $4,000 for winning the Bud Pro Surf tour event, which was contested in four- to six-foot waves. He also moved into fourth place in the overall standings with 1,610 points.
Carlsbad’s Taylor Knox leads the tour standings with 2,450 points. Newport Beach’s Richie Collins, who lost in the quarterfinals, is tied for second place with Machado at 1,810 points.
Hawaii’s Chris Burkhart won the bodyboard division, followed by San Clemente’s Jay Reale and Brian Wise.
Encinitas’ Dale Dobson won the longboard surfing division, beating San Clemente’s Josh Baxter and Huntington Beach’s Mike Downey and Mike Morgan in the finals.
