ITC Finds Korea, Mexico Dumped Steel: The International Trade Commission ruled that steel wire rope “dumped” by Korea and Mexico was damaging U.S. industry. The ruling by the independent government agency clears the way for the Commerce Department to impose certain anti-dumping duties. The Commerce Department will place a duty on the imports equal to the unfair trade advantage the goods have. In 1991, U.S. imports of carbon steel wire totaled $97.9 million, most of it from Korea, Canada, Mexico and Germany. The ruling that both Korean and Mexican producers had hurt U.S. industry by selling their products at less than fair value was the latest in a line of anti-dumping actions.
