HIGH MARKS: New UC Irvine Chancellor Laurel L. Wilkening seems to have won over some usually tough campus critics--the academic deans. Several said the 48-year-old planetary scientist, who starts July 1, showed surprising insight during her recent first visit to campus since her appointment. . . . “I’d give her an A-quadruple-plus,” said social sciences Dean William R. Schonfeld. “Judging from this first get-together, we’ve got a truly first-class chancellor.”
