A clock radio in a Simi Valley garage caused a fire Monday night that destroyed the garage and caused minor smoke damage to the home, fire officials said.
Fifteen Simi Valley firefighters took less than 20 minutes to contain the blaze at 2142 Penlan Ave. shortly after 7 p.m. Monday, officials said. No one was injured.
The fire caused $38,000 in damages to the building, and another $22,500 in property was destroyed, a Ventura County Fire Department spokeswoman said. It was unclear Tuesday whether the radio had been left on, the spokeswoman said.
Smoke from the fire was visible up to a mile away as the Fire Department received numerous calls to 911, the spokeswoman said.
