COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Saddleback Uses Error to Defeat Riverside, 1-0

Carly Girton’s deep fly to center field was dropped, allowing Danette Morris to score in the seventh inning as Saddleback beat Riverside, 1-0, in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Wednesday at Saddleback.

The bases were loaded with one out when Girton hit the fly for the host Gauchos (11-3, 2-2 in conference).

Laura Kesterson (10-3) pitched a six-hitter with 14 strikeouts for Saddleback. Riverside is 3-5, 2-2.

In other Orange Empire Conference softball:

Cypress 2, Rancho Santiago 1--Dena Villasenor pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts for first-place Cypress (17-6, 4-0), which took a one-game lead over host Rancho Santiago. Amy Lewis doubled and Teresa Pixler tripled for host Rancho Santiago (7-7, 3-1) in the fifth inning.

Orange Coast 2, Fullerton 1--Stephani Rogers’ bunt single scored Becky Elcock to break a 1-1 tie in the fourth for host Orange Coast (7-4, 3-1).

Lindy Escobedo had three hits for Fullerton (8-4, 1-3).

Golden West 12, Irvine Valley 8--Roseann Hernandez drove in three runs and scored three times for Golden West (3-4, 1-3) in a game that included 20 walks and 11 errors. Irvine Valley is 2-9, 0-4.

In Orange Empire Conference golf:

Saddleback 372, Cypress 389, Cuyamaca 394, Fullerton 405--Jason Reeder shot a one-under 71 and Colin McElderry shot 72 for Saddleback at Rancho San Diego Golf Course.

In the College of the Desert baseball tournament:

Chaffey 12, Cypress 5--Kevin Clark had a three-run home run and two-run triple for host Cypress (12-7).
