COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : DesRoches Saves Cypress Again for Record

Cypress reliever Mike DesRoches struck out Brandon Farley with two on and two out in the ninth to earn a school-record fifth save and give the Chargers a 5-3 victory over Fullerton in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game at Cypress.
DesRoches tied Bill Bentley’s 1988 single-season record for saves. Pat Simec pitched 8 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run while striking out nine to earn the victory for Cypress (14-7, 4-3 in conference).
Fullerton is 8-11, 1-6.

In other conference games:
Saddleback 16, Orange Coast 4--Wade Jackson had four hits and scored three runs, and Ted Wilkes had three hits and four RBIs for the Gauchos (13-4, 4-3). Cade Gaspar had three hits, including a three-run home run in the second for Saddleback. Orange Coast is 10-8, 4-3.
Rancho Santiago 7, Riverside 1--Chris Lugo hit a home run and Jason Minici had two hits, including a triple for Rancho Santiago (15-3, 5-2).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:
Fullerton 5, Saddleback 4--Renee Ivy and Viki Rodriguez clinched the victory for Fullerton with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles.
