Beverly Hills Fan Loses $163,000 in 1st Quarter

Beverly Hills Fan Co., a Woodland Hills supplier of ceiling fans, posted a fiscal first-quarter loss of $163,000, compared with a $163,000 profit a year earlier.
The loss in the quarter that ended Jan. 31 came on a 59% plunge in Beverly Hills Fan’s revenue, to $783,000 from $1.9 million a year earlier.
The company blamed the lower results on higher product-development costs and lower sales to mass merchandisers, a drop that appeared to be partly due to “an unusually cool summer in the Eastern states in 1992” that left retailers overstocked.
