Stronger Gun Laws
Your polite and scholarly requests for gun control deny reality. We have a real, immediate emergency.
We must demand from Congress through our representatives the enactment of a gun control law which forbids the sale and possession of all handguns, coupled with a mandatory 10-year sentence for illegal sale or possession. According to recent statistics, 30 out of 100,000 people are killed by guns in the United States; Canada and Japan--with strong gun control laws--have a rate of 2.9 and 0.5 per 100,000, respectively.
As the day begins police officers don their bulletproof vests, 12-year-olds pack their lunches and guns, and the 7 o’clock news summarizes the usual grim statistics for the day. But we do have the right to bear arms as we run for cover.
