SAN ONOFRE — A 59-year-old San Diego woman was killed and three other drivers were injured in a six-vehicle pileup caused Monday afternoon when the woman’s car rear-ended a truck on Interstate 5 south of the San Onofre border checkpoint, authorities said.
The woman, whose identify was being withheld until relatives could be notified, was driving north at 1:15 p.m. at about 50 m.p.h. and apparently failed to see the other cars stopped for the checkpoint in front of her, said California Highway Patrol Officer Bill Kirby.
Kim Poindexter, 28, of Altadena, suffered major injuries and was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, Kirby said.
The driver of the truck, James Gilloon, 65, of San Juan Capistrano, was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
A third driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
