BETTY’S SHADOW: It is not easy to follow anyone as dynamic as feminist author Betty Friedan, who spoke at a Jewish Federation luncheon in Irvine on Monday (B2). But Ellie Burg, above, had good reason to step to the dais after her. The federation’s women’s group named Burg “Woman of the Year” for 30 years of service in Jewish causes. . . . “I told Ms. Friedan that she started it all for me,” Burg says. “I read ‘Feminine Mystique’ 35 years ago and it empowered me to be who I am.”
