Man Is Declared Insane After Plane Incident

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — A man who tried to open an emergency door of a plane during a flight last year has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.
U.S. District Judge Malcolm Muir on Tuesday found Christopher Richard Harton, 24, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., not guilty but insane on a charge of interfering with a flight crew member. He was acquitted of a charge of attempting to disable an airplane.
Harton, who tried to open the door of a USAir Express plane at 16,000 feet, remains in custody and will undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine his treatment.
