Irvine 4, Tustin 1--Rebecca Smith gave up five hits in pitching a complete game for Irvine (7-2, 1-0).

In Sea View League boys’ tennis:

University 13, Saddleback 5--Jason Meyers and Eric Peterson lost only four games each as they swept their sets for University (6-1, 4-0).

Irvine 10, Santa Margarita 8--Sophomore Todd Herrington swept, 6-3, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 singles for Irvine (8-2, 3-1).

In nonleague boys’ tennis:

Esperanza 12, Brea-Olinda 6--Mike Burgess led Esperanza (8-2) to a victory over host Brea-Olinda (6-3) with a 6-2, 6-1, 6-0 sweep at No. 1 singles.

Villa Park 10, Valencia 8--Jason DeVera and Ryan Hollis each won three singles sets for Villa Park (6-2). Valencia fell to 5-4.

El Dorado 10, Canyon 8--With the match tied, 8-8, No. 1 singles player Steve Dawson beat Canyon’s No. 2 singles, 7-5, and teammate Tunde Osunsanmi defeated the No. 3 singles player, 6-4, to get the victory for El Dorado (3-7).

Laguna Beach 9, Capistrano Valley (Laguna Beach wins on games, 83-77)--Julian Zajfen (6-0, 6-0, 6-3) and Elliot West (6-0, 6-0, 6-4) swept in singles for Laguna Beach (4-3).

In Empire League boys’ swimming:

El Dorado 90, Katella 74--Drew Leonard led El Dorado (1-0) with first-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.27) and the 500 freestyle (5:03.37).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 131, Laguna Beach 60--Freshman James Comfort won the 200 individual medley (2:02.44) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.85) for Costa Mesa (1-0). In the Orange League:

Valencia 116, Western 59--Junior Glenn Gaza won the 100 butterfly (1:00.91) and the 100 backstroke (1:08.41) for Valencia (1-2, 1-0).

Newport Harbor 112, Tustin 58--Brett McAllister won the 50 and 100 freestyles and swam on two winning relay teams for Newport Harbor.

El Dorado 117, Katella 53--Freshman Stacey Rosenberg won the 500 freestyle (5:22.27) and the 100 backstroke (1:07.20) for El Dorado (1-0).

Brea-Olinda 120, Magnolia 45--Amy Clark won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke for Brea-Olinda (4-0, 1-0).

Valencia 129, Western 41--Rori Rangel won two events, the 200 individual medley and the 100 freestyle, for Valencia (1-3, 1-0).

Irvine 111, Santa Margarita 57--Irvine’s (3-1, 3-0) Monica Husczc qualified for the Southern Section meet in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:07.31.

In Sunset League boys’ volleyball:

Santa Ana 3, Fountain Valley 0--Carlos Bolanos had 17 kills and teammate John Boyd added 16 for Santa Ana in the 15-10, 15-8, 15-10 victory. It was Santa Ana’s first victory against Fountain Valley since the Saints (5-1, 2-1) joined the Sunset League five seasons ago.

Western 438, Long Beach Poly 489--Tiger Woods led the pack, shooting a three-under 69 for Western (1-3) in a match played over two days at Los Coyotes and Long Beach Recreation Park.

Brea-Olinda 394, Whittier California 480--Joel Del Giorgio shot a five-over 77 for Brea (6-0) at Candlewood and Imperial.
