Rubbish Barons Holding Monopoly
* It should come as no surprise that rubbish interests have co-opted a few City Council people in support of the proposed ecological disaster, the Elsmere Canyon dump (“Cities Panel Backs Elsmere Dump” May 1).
The rubbish interests have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to incorporate small cities and to buy council support for their rubbish businesses, dating clear back to 1954.
This group, including BKK, is a most formidable political adversary and possesses a controlling vote in most of the California contract cities because of past political contributions.
Under the guise of “waste management” the rubbish barons, holding a monopoly on both landfill and refuse pickup, provide a sub-government with tentacles that reach to Sacramento and Washington. At stake are millions of dollars in refuse revenue.
