Readers Speak Up in Defense of Rap Music

The Focus on the Family organization is one of the groups that is attacking rap.
They point out the glamorization of violence by rappers, but it’s not as though all rappers rap about gangs or killing police.
Many rappers have positive messages and, like any other type of music, they sing songs that people can dance to.
The responsibility of sending out positive messages shouldn’t fall on rappers.
Many of them are rapping about where they came from and what they’ve experienced, and if that’s making them rich, there is no way to stop them from continuing.
Rap is only music; it’s listened to for entertainment. There is only so much influence that a song or music video can have.
Rap is getting a bad reputation because many adults don’t want to blame themselves for not being positive role models to children.
