Oxnard fire officials confirmed Thursday that a fire that gutted a three-bedroom mobile home and left a family of four homeless was sparked by an iron that fell on a carpet in a back bedroom.
Eighteen firefighters were called to extinguish the fire Wednesday in Kona Kai Mobile Estates in south Oxnard. The fire briefly threatened nearby residences. The blaze caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to the mobile home and its contents, Fire Inspector Kevin Schroepfer said.
The iron had been left unattended when it fell and ignited the carpet, he said.
