Highest Jobless Rate: Speaking of statistics, Santa Ana in June once again posted the highest unemployment rate of any city in the county: 11.5%.
The county’s second-largest city--and one of its poorest--had an estimated 18,200 residents out of work in June, the latest month for which the state Employment Development Department has estimates. That’s out of a work force of 158,000. The month before, Santa Ana’s unemployment rate was 10.6%.
Anaheim, the county’s largest city, was at 7.6% in June, with 11,600 people out of work.
For the entire county, the rate was 6.6%, with 90,000 out of work.
Lowest unemployment rate in the county was in the affluent suburban community of Coto de Caza in South Orange County, where just 0.5% of the 1,500-people work force was unemployed.
The rates for other large county cities: Costa Mesa, 5.7%, 3,500 unemployed; Huntington Beach, 5%, 5,700; Irvine, 4.6%, 3,000; and Orange, 6.3%, 4,000.
