SEEING PURPLE: Prince (we can name that diminutive pop star in one symbol) says he’s retired from the studio, but his music’s going to be everywhere else, apparently. On the heels of the Joffrey Ballet’s “Billboards” production using his songs, the Minneapolis Madcap is putting together his own multi-media stage presentation, tentatively scheduled to premiere at the L.A. Glam Slam club on Aug. 21. He reportedly won’t be in it, but the production will feature all new songs.
And not to be outdone by the Rolling Stones’ 1991 large-scale concert film “The Rolling Stones at the Max,” Prince has teamed up with Iwerks Entertainment to create a 70-millimeter concert film, which will blow the little guy up to size for a 60-by-80-foot screen.
As far as Prince’s old studio work is concerned, his greatest-hits package due in September will be released in both “clean” and “dirty” versions.
