Tidland Ousted from Western Amateur

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Chris Tidland of Placentia reached the quarterfinals but was eliminated in the 91st Western Amateur golf tournament at the 6,884-yard, par-71 Point O’Woods Golf & Country Club.
Tidland beat Jason Gore, 2-up, in the round of 16 but lost to Heath Fell of Lapeer, Mich., 5 and 4, in the quarterfinal.
Justin Leonard of Dallas beat Jaxon Brigman, 1-up, in 20 holes, Chris Riley of El Cajon defeated Notah Begay of Albuquerque, N.M., 1-up, in 20 holes, and Danny Green of Jackson, Tenn., beat Tim Herron of Wayzata, Minn., 1-up, in the other quarterfinals.
Tiger Woods of Cypress, who won the U.S. boys’ junior golf championship last weekend, failed to advance to match play.
