Charter Medical Sells 10 Hospitals: The Macon, Ga.-based hospital company has agreed to sell 10 acute care hospitals--including the 184-bed Charter Suburban Hospital in Paramount--to Quorom Health Group Inc. for $340 million. The other hospitals being sold are in Georgia, Louisiana, Nevada and Texas and have a total of 1,421 licensed beds. Charter said the proposed sale would reduce its debt load by 40% to about $400 million. In California, Charter operates seven psychiatric hospitals in Corona, Covina, Long Beach, Mission Viejo, Sacramento, San Diego and Thousand Oaks. It also operates an acute care hospital in Hawaiian Gardens.
